Dr Julian Theng
Dr Julian Theng graduated from the National University of Singapore in 1992 with an MBBS degree and went on to specialise in the field of ophthalmology. He completed his fellowship examinations in Singapore and in London, obtaining the MMED (Ophth) and FRCS (Edinburgh) as well as the FRCOphth (in London) postgraduate degrees, which included a special module in optics and refraction.
He was made a Consultant in 2003 at the Singapore National Eye Centre (SNEC) where he worked for 12 years from 1995 to 2006 and is highly reputed for his work in the areas of the cornea and cataract, and refractive surgery, and has performed thousands of cataract, LASIK and cornea transplant surgeries.
Dr Theng is highly regarded for his expertise in the treatment of Presbyopia and Cataracts, particularly multifocal Intraocular Lens (IOL) Implant surgery.
He regularly teaches at courses and lectures internationally on the technique and technology of multifocal implantations and was also selected as Singapore’s representative to conduct a Phase 4 Clinical Trial on the latest designed multifocal lens implant at EEC. Apart from Presbyopia and Cataract treatment, Dr Theng has a special interest in complex artificial cornea transplant surgery. He was one of only two surgeons in Singapore who was involved in the region's first breakthrough "sight restoring tooth-in-eye" surgery that restored the sight of a blind teenager in February 2004.

More about Dr. Julian Theng
Despite his busy and hectic professional life, Dr Theng remains a devoted Christian. He is also a loving husband and father to his family. He believes in a balanced lifestyle and has varied hobbies and interests, sports being one of his great passions. He has represented his schools (Anglo-Chinese Junior School and Anglo-Chinese School, and the National Junior College) in athletics, table-tennis and tennis. He captained the NUS tennis team for three years and was once part of the Singapore National Tennis Team. Today, he still plays tennis competitively.
Dr Theng's other passion is his love for music and singing - he performs frequently at weddings, hospital functions and many other events. He has also participated in many commercial as well as church drama-musical productions. He has also served as a deacon in Prinsep Street Presbyterian Church. Some of Dr Theng's other hobbies are fishing, painting (both oil and acrylic), cooking and DIY activities around the house.
