Since 2006, Eagle Eye Centre has been collecting used spectacles from the patients. And thus far they have collected over 3000 used spectacles. Recently The Lions Club has appointed Eagle Eye Centre as their professional eye care advisor and the donated spectacles will be put to good use in their upcoming Gift of Sight Mission in Batam.
The Gift of Sight Mission is provided free of charge to the needy populations to help restore vision. The mission will take place in March and involve allied health administrators, local volunteers as well as teachers and students from Henderson Secondary School. To prepare the students for the upcoming mission, a training workshop was held in Eagle Eye Centre where the students equipped the basic skills to do public eye screening. Through the guidance of Eagle Eye Centre’s optometrist, Ms Shandy Chng, the students were taught the basic anatomy of the eye and the different refractive errors. They also learned how to do eye screening tests such as measuring visual acuity and using auto-refractors, effective history taking and filling up screening report. In addition, Ms Jaslynn Lee (Optician & LASIK Counsellor at EEC) gave an introductory lesson on the different types of ophthalmic lenses and taught the students the concept of spectacles prescription, selection of spectacle frames and the ability to dispense spectacles.
